Norma Schwarz
Services for Norma Elizabeth Schwarz, 100, Baldwin City, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Baldwin City. Burial will be in St. John’s cemetery adjacent to the church.
Mrs. Schwarz died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010.
She was born June 30, 1910, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of John and Sophia (Haas) Stoebener.
Mrs. Schwarz was a lifelong resident of the Baldwin City area. She attended Central School, which was a one room schoolhouse.
She loved reading, especially Roy Rogers and Dale Evans books, and belonged to several book clubs. She also enjoyed making quilts and afghans and baking cookies at Christmas. She routinely sent cards to everyone in the community for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.
In 1999 she received the Soil Conservation Award from Douglas County Soil Conservation.
Mrs. Schwarz was a lifetime member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship at St. John’s and the Jolly Stichers Club of Worden.
She married Walter J. Schwarz on Oct. 9, 1935, at St. John’s E&R Church. He died Oct. 7, 1997.
Survivors include a son, Allan (Darlene) Schwarz, Baldwin City; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will accept visitors at the church beginning one hour prior to the service.
