Octavia McConico

Services for Octavia McConico, 86, Bonner Springs, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, with viewing commencing at 9 a.m. at Bonner Springs Grace Temple. Burial will be in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee.
Mrs. McConico died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Herman and Norma McConico, in Bonner Springs.
She was born March 11, 1924, in Forrest City, Ark., the daughter of Jack Berry and Viola Moore.
Mrs. McConico lived the relevant and significant portion of her life in Lincoln, Neb., and Bonner Springs. Her employment history included working for the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., Economic Opportunity Foundation in Bonner Springs, and owning and operating a restaurant establishment in the Kansas City, Kan,. courthouse.
She was a faithful member of Bonner Springs Grace Temple Church, where she was the mother of the church and immensely enjoyed teaching the Word of God, mentoring and singing.
Her husband of 57 years, Pastor LeRoy McConico Sr., died May 29, 2000. She also was preceded in death by her sons, Elgin Nesby and Cleon McConico.
Survivors include five sons, Melgin Williams (Ethel), Kansas City, Kan., Herman McConico (Norma), James McConico (Sheila) and Clifford McConico (Arine), all of Bonner Springs, and LeRoy McConico Jr. (Essie), Paola; two daughters, Katherine McConico and Yvetter McConico, North Carolina; a sister, Vinither McConico (John Henry), Bonner Springs; two brothers, Clifford Moore, Little Rock, Ark., and Albert Moore Jr. Chicago; and 14 grandchildren.
