Tonganoxie High girls soccer opens busy week with loss to Basehor-Linwood
Tonganoxie High girls soccer trailed, 4-0, Monday at home against Basehor-Linwood and couldn’t cut into the deficit in the second half at Beatty Field.
The Chieftains lost, 9-0, to the Bobcats and fell to 1-5 on the season. THS earned a shutout in its victory April 4 and has been shut out in each of its losses.
Against Washington, five different THS players scored in the 7-0 victory: Stella Bradley (2), Maddie Ziolo (2), Sessie Engelund, Analyssa Jurado and Sophie Bolshauser.
The Basehor-Linwood game kicked off a busy week for Tonganoxie.
THS also played Tuesday at Louisburg and has a home match Thursday against Bonner Springs.
The team then has a break in the schedule, as the Chieftains aren’t back in action until April 25 at Heritage Christian in Olathe.The team then is at Ottawa two days later before having a home match again at home the next day against Maranatha Christian Academy.
THS coach Jon Orndorff said the victory against Washington was big for his young team.
“It helps the girls to see what it feels like to get the ball in the bottom of the net,” Orndorff said.
THS has a relatively inexperienced squad, with 20 of 31 of the roster members in their first year of soccer.
“They’re getting better every day,” Orndorff said.
This year’s varsity roster has five seniors: Sierra Innis, Ally Rawlings, Ktelyn Bothwell, Madison Farr and Jordan Ruttan. Juniors are McKenna Clam, Madie Ziolo, Sesse Engelund, Sophie Boltshauser, Anna Tochtrop and Breonna Lang. This year’s varsity sophomores are Kayla Thornton, Elena Edholm, Harlee Morando, Jaylynn Sparks, Grae Vanderweide, Stella Bradley, Macie Murray, Baylie Iglehart and Peyton Waters. Analyssa Jurado and Grace Weatherford are freshman on the varsity roster.
The junior varsity roster has juniors Taylor Iglehart, Journey Creten and Alaina Rogers, sophomores Gracey Laver-Foster and Emily Lopez and freshmen Brookyn Kelly, Gracelynn Barneett, Johanna Boone, Kayleigh Williamson and Jamison Lorfing.
