Tonganoxie High boys golf team members gather after their tournament Monday in Manhattan. The Chieftains placed fifth at the tourney.

The Tonganoxie High boys golf team headed west for meets last week and earlier this week.

THS placed fourth at the Wamego Invitational on Wednesday, April 5, at the Wamego Golf Course and then placed fifth Monday at the Manhattan Country Club.

Despite finishing in fifth place Monday, the team shot a solid 340, which was the team’s lowest score of the season so far on what THS coach Doug Sandburg called the most beautiful day of the season weather-wise.

Tonganoxie finished behind two Class 6A schools, a 5A school and a 4A school. The team was lead by Remi Baldock and Gabe Seba who shot 81 and 82 respectively. They placed 10th and 13th in the tournament. The other counting scores were Colton Brusven (88) and Zac Fisher (89). The team was rounded out by Carter Gratton (90) and Lachlan McRae (100).

“This again was solid improvement and the team is working in the right direction to have a good year,” Sandburg said. The next tournament will be today at Burning Tree and then there will be three tournaments next week.

Varsity takes 4th at Wamego

The team finished fourth at the Wamego Tournament after playing on back-to-back days.

The day was very windy, but the course was in good shape, according to Sandburg.

Tonganoxie was led by Gabe Seba with an 89. He placed 14th. The other counting scores were Remi Baldock with 90, Colton Brusven with 94 and Carter Gratton with 94. The other two participants in the tourney were Zac Fisher and Aiden Van Middlesworth. The team shot a 367.

JV at Jeff West

Tonganoxie had its first junior varsity tournament on Wednesday, April 5, at Jeff West.

The team was lead by Jaxon Smith with a 54 and Noah Carlton with 56. Other medaling athletes were Luke Breuer and Emmitt Crookham.
