Tonganoxie High softball sweeps Turner, moves to 11-3 on season
Tonganoxie High softball earned another sweep Thursday.
The Chieftains defeated Turner, 10-7, and then 13-3. The second game ended in 5 innings due to the mercy rule.
The second game was tied, 3-3, after Turner rallied, but THS answered with 10 runs over multiple innings.
Turner scored first in both games, but Tonganoxie answered in the second inning in each game and never trailed after that.
In the first game, Santi Garcia led the team in hits with three. Savannah Booker, Abby Ckalrson and Mariah Herrera all had doubles. Farrah Halsa, Mariah Herrera, Emerson Maslak and Kylie Vandervoort all had triples in the victory, while six Chieftain batters had one or more RBI: Savannah Booker, Charleigh Craine, Garcia (2), Halsa (2), Mariah Herrera (3) and Maslak.
Isaacs worked 4 innings, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits. She struck out 8 and gave up 4 walks and a homer. All but 1 run was earned. Halsa threw 3 innings and gave up 3 hits and an earned run. She also had 3 strikeouts.
In the second game, Clarkson led the team in hits with four. Herrera, Maslak and Jordyn Vorbeck all had doubles, while Halsa connected for a triple. Overall, six Chieftain batters had one more RBI: Booker (2), Garcia, Herrera, Maslak (2), Vandervoort (2) and Vorbeck.
Halsa threw 5 innings of work, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits. Only one of the runs was earned and she had 5 strikeouts.
Tonganoxie improved to 11-3 on the season. The team next will play Ottawa, which also is 11-3 on the season, in a doubleheader Tuesday in Tonganoxie. Both teams are 3-2 in Frontier League play.
