Tonganoxie basketball

The Tonganoxie High boys basketball almost found a way to complete a varsity sweep Friday at Louisburg.

LHS actually jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the season opener, but Tonganoxie battled back. The Wildcats then got up by 18 in the second half, but the Chieftains again responded.

In the final moments of the game with a chance to tie or take the lead, Tonganoxie’s shot at a thrilling victory or push for overtime couldn’t quite happen.

Louisburg won the Frontier League battle, 53-51, dropping Tonganoxie to 0-1 on the season in conference play and overall.

THS faced Atchison on Tuesday in the Chieftains’ home opener. The game took place after The Mirror’s print deadline. Atchison opened the season 1-0 after defeating Rossville, 73-53, on the road.

Tonganoxie is back on the road Friday for a U.S. Highway 24-40 clash with Wamego. WHS was 0-1 on the season after falling to Topeka High, 58-38, in Topeka. It’s then back home for a Dec. 14 game against Eudora (1-0 and 1-0).
