Tonganoxie High girls wrestling takes 3rd at Frontier League meet
Tonganoxie High girls wrestling placed third at the Frontier League championships, as the Chieftains just missed out on being runner-up.
THS scored 144, just behind Bonner Springs, which scored 144.5. Baldwin won the tourney with 186 points.
Tonganoxie’s performances included one gold medal and three silver medals.
Holly Colvert improved to 27-1 after winning the 190-pound championship. She went undefeated in her weight division. The senior is ranked No. 3 in Class 4-1A and No. 5 among all classes.
Autumn Wilson placed second at 105, going 2-1 on the day. Now 23-10, the THS freshman lost to Baldwin junior Brianna Mitchell (31-7), 2-0, in the finals. Stella Bradley (26-13) also placed second at 125. Grace Stean (28-10) also won silver after going 3-1.
Abigail Starcher placed third at 110 after going 1-2. She’s now 11-17 on the year. Mackenzie Colgrove (22-14) placed third at 140 after going 2-2 on the day.
Kendall Smart (8-16) placed fourth at 155, as did Anna Tochtrop (9-18).
Coming in fifth at 135 was Finley Keller (12-17), who defeated Spring Hill sophomore Avery Donkey (16-16) by fall early in the second period (2:09).
At 120, Grae Vanderweide placed sixth at 120. She moved to 13-19 after taking sixth place at the league meet. She lost, 4-3, to Baldwin junior Perla Baeckberg (19-19). Brooklin Rich (10-15) also placed sixth after losing, 9-5, in the fifth-place match to Ottawa senior Kamryn Dials (19-8).
THS will have a little break before the postseason. The Chieftains will compete Feb. 11 at a 4-1A regional at Rossville. Other regional sites are Coffeyville, Hoisington and Wellington.
