Tonganoxie High wrestlers scrimmage during Late Night festivities Nov. 21, 2022, at the Tonganoxie High gymnasium.

Tonganoxie High boys wrestling is ranked No. 5 in the latest Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Class 4A poll.

The Jan. 31 poll has Rose Hill ranked atop 4A.

THS, the defending 4A state champ, has six wrestlers ranked among 14 weight classes: Junior Braeden Moore is No. 1 at 132, freshman Brady Martin No. 5 at 144, junior Noah Bailey No. 3 at 150, junior Colton Brusven No. 4 at 165, senior Wyatt Harris No. 3 at 175 and Hunter Benedict No. 3 at 215.

Moore also is the overall No. 1 ranked wrestler among all classes at 132. Martin is No. 5 at 144, Bailey No. 3 at 150 and Brusven No. 9 at 165.

In 4A team rankings, Andale is No. 2, Augusta No. 3 and Paola No. 4. Clay Center is at No. 6, Chanute at No. 7, Abilene at No. 8, Independence at No. 9 and Holton at No. 10.

Those standings are a bit jumbled in the all-class rankings.

Hoxie (3A) is No. 1, while Maize (5A) is No. 2.

Though Andale is No. 2 in 4A, AHS is highest-ranked 4A team in the all-class rankings. Rose Hill is No. 5, Paola No. 6 and Augusta No. 4. Newton is No. 4 (5A), Derby No. 8 (6A), St. Thomas Aquinas No. 9 (5A) and Garden City No. 10 (6A).

Tonganoxie was supposed to have a dual this past Thursday at Holton, but the teams canceled the event due to illnesses on both teams. The dual won’t be made up.

THS will compete at 3 p.m. today at the Frontier League meet at Bonner Springs. It’s then on to regionals on Feb. 18. THS will compete in the Baldwin Regional. Other 4A sites are Augusta, Fort Scott and McPherson. The state championships are Feb. 24-25 at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.
