Send-off for Tonganoxie High girls wrestling team is Tuesday

By Staff | Feb 20, 2023

Tonganoxie High girls wrestling team members decorate the business window at Win Chiropractic and Sports Therapy, 307 Ridge St. near Brothers Market late last week. THS girls coach Adam Ludwin owns the business.

Fans can send off the Tonganoxie High girls wrestling team Tuesday afternoon as they head to Salina for the Class 4-1A state championships.

The THS Drum Line will lead both the THS girls and boys teams through the school, per recent tradition at the high school when teams are headed to state. That will be at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Tonganoxie police will then provide an escort from the high school through town from THS starting around 3:30 p.m. The team will make its way south on Main Street from the high school and then head west along Fourth Street in the downtown area before heading south on U.S. Highway 24-40.

Fans can line Fourth Street and wish the team well as the girls drive through downtown. State qualifiers this year are freshman Autumn Wilson (105), sophomores Mackenzie Colgrove (140) and Grace Stean (170) and senior Holly Colvert (190). THS finished third at regionals Feb. 11 at Rossville. The girls will compete Wednesday and Thursday in the 4-1A state championships at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.

The boys team won its 4A regional Saturday at Baldwin. THS is sending 10 wrestlers to state: Freshman Brodie Starcher (106), freshman Dax Duffett (126), junior Braeden Moore (132), sophomore Emmett Crookham (138), freshman Brady Martin (144), junior Noah Bailey (150), junior Gannon Sonntag (157), junior Colton Brusven (165), senior Hunter Benedict (215) and freshman Gavin Rhoads (285).

Check back for updates on when the THS boys team will leave for Salina. The defending 4A state champions will compete Friday and Saturday at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center.
