Colvert takes 3rd, Stean 5th as Tonganoxie High girls wrestling takes 13th overall at state
SALINA — Tonganoxie High girls wrestling has two state medalists this year and nearly finished in the Top 10 at the Class 4-1A state championships Thursday at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.
Holly Colvert (35-2) finished her prep career with a third-place victory against Burlington junior Johanna Carrasco (31-4). After begin upset in the state semifinals on Wednesday, Colvert bounced back for two more victories on Thursday and finished with her third state medal in her decorated high school career.

Like Colvert, THS sophomore Grace Stean bounced back from a semifinal loss. She dropped a heartbreaker in the consolation semifinals, but persevered and won the fifth-place match with a pin at the 2:42 mark. Stean finished the season at 36-12 in her second state appearance.
Autumn Wilson and Mackenzie Colgrove advanced to Day 2, but were eliminated in the consolation bracket. Wilson, a freshman, finished the year at 29-13 at 105. Colgrove, a sophomore, concluded her season 27-17.
THS finished state tied for 13th place with Scott City. They were just 5 points away from No. 10 Winfield. Chanute won its first state title with 88 points. The Comets won the crown with five wrestlers. Rossville was second (73) with four wrestlers and fellow Frontier League member Baldwin third (70) with 10 wrestlers.
