Tonganoxie High’s Gilmore sweeps events, breaks record at league meet
Eli Gilmore continues to impress as he pushes toward the state track and field championships.
The Tonganoxie High senior won the 400, 800 and 1,600 on Thursday, May 11, at Baker University’s Liston Stadium in Baldwin City.

Gilmore had a season-best time of 48.57 seconds in the 400 and set a new Frontier League meet record in the process.
He also won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 0.95 seconds and the 1,600 with a time of 4:26.99.
Isaiah Holthaus also won gold for the Chieftains. He placed first in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 9.5 inches. Ethan Butler placed sixth in the event with a 20-6 mark. Butler also placed fourth in the triple jump (40-3.25) and seventh in the high jump (5-9). Owen Schmidt placed sixth in the triple jump as well (39-11.5)
Todd Brown placed fourth in the 100 meters (11.31) and fourth in the 200 (23.3). Kendall Smith placed sixth in the event (23.54).
The 4×100 relay team placed second (43.78), as did the 4×400 relay team (3:31.11). Both times were season bests. It also was the case for the 4×800 team, which finished fifth with an 8:41.07 time.
Joining Eli Gilmore in placing in the 1,600 were Solomon Carter, who had a season-best time of 4:39.11 for fifth, and Jett Gilmore who placed seventh (4:59.10).
In throwing events, Tucker McGuire placed sixth in the discus (136-7) and TJ Leeper eighth in the shot put (43-2.25).
The THS boys placed fourth overall. The Louisburg boys were this year’s Frontier League champions.
On the girls side, Kasia Baldock placed second in the high jump with a 4-9 height. Adalyn Harder placed fifth at 4-9 and Finley Rieke seventh at 4-7.
Kara Johnson placed fifth in the 800 (2:34.86) and Kinnley Hoffhines sixth in the 1,600 (6:01.21).
In the long jump, Keagan Murray placed fifth (16-11). Mikinzi Smoots finished fifth in the pole vault (9-0) and sixth in the triple jump (33-9).
In the throwing events, Addison Booker placed third in javelin (112-11).
The THS girls placed eighth as a team in league. Eudora won the girls title.
Next up for Tonganoxie teams is a Class 4A regional at Shawnee Mission North. SMN will be hosting both a 6A meet and the 4A meet. Field events will start at 1 p.m., prelims at 3 p.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
Other teams there in 4A will be Atchison, Baldwin, Eudora, Holton, Louisburg, Bishop Miege, Hayden and Wamego.
The top four qualifiers in each event will advance to the state Track and field championships May 26-27 at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
