Adding to the trophy case: Tonganoxie boys cross country finishes as one of top teams in state again, placing 3rd in Class 4A
Tonganoxie High boys cross country once again has finished among the top teams in the state.
THS placed third at the Class 4A state meet Saturday at the Wamego Country Club.
Solomon Carter led THS runners with a ninth-place finish.
Buhler won the boys title with a 31, while Wamego placed second with 94. THS finished with 113 points for third, while Chapman placed fourth with 141.
Baldwin was the next Frontier League as the Bulldogs placed fifth (156).
Scott City placed sixth (166), Augusta seventh (174), Rock Creek seventh (195) and McPherson eighth (199). Winfield (225), Chanute (273) and Coffeyville (294) finished out the state team rankings on the boys side.
Carter, who is a junior, finished in 16 minutes, 33.8 seconds for ninth place.
Caleb Muehler, a McPherson sophomore, won the individual title with a time of 15:58.8. Eudora senior Zachary Arnold, who has been a force locally in recent years, took second in 15:59.7.
Junior Jett Gilmore placed 25th for the Chieftains with a 17:28.1 time, while freshman Parker Welsh was right behind in 26th (17:28.5). Senior Michael Bottary (17:30.3) placed 31st, Piercen Eccles 68th (18:35.2), junior Huston Albert 72nd (18:40.5) and senior Joseph Turner 95th (20:37.8).
On the girls side, Kara Johnson and Kinnley Hoffhines finished 11th and 34th respectively for THS girls.
Johnson, a sophomore, had a 20:17.7 time, while Hoffhines finished in 21:18.2.
Eudora won the girls team title with 57 points.
Baldwin placed second with 71, Clay Center third with 81 and Buhler fourth with 103.
Wamego placed fifth (157), Rose Hill sixth (169), Scott City seventh (195), Abilene eighth (203), Winfield ninth (215) and Labette County 10th (217). McPherson (234) and Paola (281) rounded out the rest of the state teams.
The Eudora girls now have won three straight state cross country team titles.
