Tonganoxie High football routs Ottawa, 45-10, gets rematch with Chanute
Tonganoxie High didn’t score as early this week against Ottawa as it did the previous week, but the Chieftains eventually found a way to score often on their way to a 45-10 victory.
THS scored in the opening moments the previous week at Ottawa, but in the Week 9 playoff game, Tonganoxie wouldn’t score until the second quarter. But the Chieftains scored twice more and took a 21-3 lead into the half. THS would add 10 points in the third and 14 in the fourth, while allowing just one score, a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Trevor McGraw went 12-for-17 and had 203 total yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. His longest pass went for 44 yards.
THS also racked up 262 yards of rushing, with Colton Brusven leading the way with 159 yards and two touchdowns.
Tanner Hand finished with 81 yards and a touchdown.
The receiving corps had some nice distribution. Tyler Pankey had four catches for 70 yards, Todd Brown had three receptions for 60 yards, Isaiah Holthaus three for 51 and Owen Schmidt two for 22. Pankey and Holthaus each had a touchdown.
Zekkiah Glover had an interception for a touchdown as well, while Jackson McWilliams had a 32-yard field goal and was 6-for-6 on point-after-touchdown tries as well.
Tonganoxie now sets its sights on another victory this Friday.
THS, the No. 5 seed in the Class 4A East Bracket takes a 7-2 record into the next round against No. 4 Chanute (8-1). Tonganoxie handed Chanute its only regular-season loss.
The game will be 7 p.m. in Chanute.
