Wrestling teams open season this week

On Saturday, Tonganoxie heads out for the Gardner-Edgerton Invitational, which starts at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The tough tourney also will have Southeast Polk, Salina Central, Dodge City, St. James Academy, St. Thomas Aquinas, Olathe North, Manhattan, Allen, Goddard, Mill Valley, Cascia Hall Preparatory, Broken Arrow, Salina South and Southeast Polk.
The THS boys won the state title in 2022 and placed sixth last year.
The THS girls wrestling team also opens today at the Bonner Springs dual and then will travel Saturday to Spring Hill. Other teams there are Basehor-Linwood, Blue Valley, Blue Valley North, Blue Valley Southwest, Blue Valley West, Central Heights, Frontenac, Gardner-Edgerton, Holton, Mill Valley, Olathe Northwest, Ottawa, Paola, Rossville, Shawnee Mission Northwest, Shawnee Mission South and Shawnee Mission West.
McLouth wrestling teams will compete Saturday at the Emporia Invitational.
