Tonganoxie High’s Talon Langford (4) celebrates at touchdown Sept. 29, 2023, during a game against Bonner Springs at Beatty Field.

Senior Zekkiah Glover and junior Trenton Leeper led the team in tackles with eight each, while Brady led the Chieftains in tackles with eight, while junior Kendall Smith had five. junior Tanner Hand and sophomore Brady Martin each had four, with one of Martin’s being a tackle for a loss.

Tonganoxie broke out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The team added 17 in the second and a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters on the Chieftains’ way to a 52-0 victory.

Senior Trevor McGraw went 9-for-17 with 215 yards and two touchdowns as quarterback. He also threw one interception.

Colton Brusven led THS rushers with 209 yards on 21 carries. He had three touchdowns on the night. Tanner Hand had two rushing touchdowns. He carried the ball three times for 64 yards.

Senior Isaiah Holthaus led THS in receiving with 136 yards on three receptions. He had two touchdowns and his longest reception was 55 yards.

Junior Todd Brown had four receptions for 69 yards. Brown also returned a kickoff 50 yards.

Senior Jackson McWilliams went 7-for-7 on PATs and connected on a 25-yard field goal.

Tonganoxie had 306 rushing yards and 215 passing yards for a pretty balanced attack with its 521 yards of total offense.

Now 2-1 in Frontier League play and 4-1 overall, THS will continue its quest for a league title with this Friday’s game against undefeated Louisburg. The Wildcats are 4-0 and 5-0 after getting by Eudora, 13-7, this past Friday.

Louisburg finishes the season at home against Ottawa (2-2 and 2-3) and at Spring Hill (4-0 and 4-1).

If Tonganoxie can defeat Louisburg this week at Beatty Field, there’s a good chance the Chieftains could share a league title with Spring Hill and Louisburg if LHS defeats Spring Hill. Tonganoxie also will have to get past Eudora and Ottawa to make that a possibility.
