Tonganoxie High girls golf season ends at regionals

Tonganoxie High golfers pose at a meet this past week at Falcon Lakes in Basehor. THS placed second in the tourney. The squad finished up its season Monday, Oct. 9, 2023 at a Class 4A regional.

The Tonganoxie High girls golf season wrapped up Monday at a Class 4A regional in Wamego.

Tonganoxie finished eighth out of 11 teams.

Abby Clarkson led Tonganoxie in 22nd place at 39 over par. Bethany Overmiller and Santiana Garcia weren’t far behind in 26th and 27th, respectively. Both THS golfers were 42 over par. Paityn Van Middlesworth placed 38th at 49 over par and Gage Slabaugh 40th at 50 over par. Julia Staples placed 43rd at 54 over par.

Wamego won the meet at 87 over par. Hayden placed second at 98 over par, while Bulher was third at 137 over par and Eudora fourth at 138 over par.

Golfers take 2nd at Falcon Lakes

Tonganoxie had three tournaments in three days last week in advance of the postseason.

THS placed second in each meet, taking second Oct. 2 at Anderson County, second Oct. 3 at the Frontier League meet in Olathe and second on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Falcon Lakes in Basehor.

Tonganoxie finished behind eventual regional runner-up Hayden, while THS finished just ahead of Anderson County.

Overmiller shot a career-best 91 and finished eighth individually. Clarkson had another solid tourney with a 92 and finished ninth. Paityn Van Middlesworth finished in 11th but shot a career-low 40 on the front 9.

The other counting score was from Slabaugh.

THS runner-up for league title

THS placed second at the Frontier League meet, but was just five strokes away from winning their second consecutive league championship.

The Chieftains battled on a windy day and a great course at Heritage Park south of Olathe. THS placed second behind Eudora. Garcia led THS by taking fifth overall. Clarkson came in sixth overall. Van Middlesworth finished eighth and Overmiller ninth.
