Tonganoxie girls basketball wins season opener at Louisburg

Tonganoxie High boys and girls basketball teams open the season Dec. 3 with jamboree exhibition games at Chieftain Arena. The girls scrimmaged against Lansing, and Oskaloosa, while the boys met Lansing and Wellsville.Tonganoxie and Louisburg each had their share of scoring spurts Friday in the season opener for both teams.
THS built a 12-6 lead in the first quarter, but Louisburg answered in the second quarter and took an 18-16 lead into halftime. The back-and-forth continued in the second half, but THS was able to put together a final run and then hold off the Wildcats for a 44-42 victory in the Frontier League play.
The victory started off the Austin Eckert era in exciting fashion as the Chieftains improved to 1-0 in league play and 1-0 overall. Louisburg dropped to 0-1 and 0-1.

The Chieftains then have a road game Friday at Jefferson County North, are at home Tuesday against Spring Hill and then finish out the 2024 portion of the schedule Dec. 19 at Eudora.
