Tonganoxie High girls wrestling takes 2nd in Frontier League
The Tonganoxie High girls wrestling team has a runner-up finish in the Frontier League Championships to its credit this year, as well as three individual champions.
THS placed second with 148 behind league champion Spring Hill. The Broncos scored 207 points Wednesday, Jan. 31, at home.
Paola finished third with 131, Baldwin fourth with 106 and Bonner Springs fifth with 99.
Eudora placed sixth (88), Louisburg seventh (14) and Ottawa eighth (6).

Winning gold last week at Spring Hill were Autumn Wilson at 110, Stella Bradley at 115 and Grace Stean at 170.
Wilson (29-4) defeated Paola’s Brookley McDowell (18-14) by fall 2:46) in her championship match, while Stella Bradley (26-4) defeated Eudora’s Kyleigh Musick (21-10) by fall (3:44). Stean (26-5) earned her title after defeating Paola’s Alyssa Bartlett (15-12) by a 5-0 decision.
Troyer-Partridge (5-12) took third at 105, as did Grae Vanderweide (13-13) at 125. Finley Keller (17-15) won third at 130, as did Kendall Smart (9-15) at 155.
Taking fourth place were Ava Anderson (6-21) at 120, Katy Duncan (10-18) at 190 and Anna Tochtrop (7-13) at 235.
Regionals Saturday in Sabetha
The Chieftains now direct their attention to the postseason.
THS will compete in a 4-1A regional Saturday at Sabetha.
Other teams there are Atchison, Maur Hill, Baldwin, Burlingame, Centralia, Council Grove, Pleasant Ridge, Atchison County, Mission Valley, Eudora, Doniphan West, Holton, Horton, Royal Valley, Bishop Ward, Marysville McLouth, Jeff West, Onaga, Osage City, Oskaloosa, Perr-Lecompton, Pamona-West Franklin, Riley County, Riverside, Rossville, Sabetha, Santa Fe Trail, Nemaha Central, Bishop Miege, Silver Lake, Rock Creek, St. Marys, Wabaunsee, Wamego and Wellsville.
Gates will open at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in Sabetha at SHS.
The top four wrestlers in each weight division will advance to the Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 4-1A championships Feb. 22-24 at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.
THS ranked in 4-1A
The latest Kansas Coaches Wrestling Association rankings have THS climbing the Top 10 as a team, along with individual rankings.
Wilson is ranked fourth at 110 in all classes, while Bradley and Stean are ranked sixth in all classes at 115 and 170, respectively.
In 4-1A, Tonganoxie is ranked No. 7 this week after being No. 10 the previous week. Wilson has jumped to No. 2 in her class in 4-1A, while Stean is ranked No. 3 and Bradley No. 6. in the latest polls released Tuesday.
