State pairings for Tonganoxie and McLouth girls first-round matches

The state wrestling championships start Thursday morning for boys Classes 6A and 5A and girls 6-5A at Hartman Arena in Park City near Wichita and for boys in 4A and 3-1A and girls in 4-1A at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.

New this year is a three-day format for both boys and girls tournaments.

Weigh-ins for Tonganoxie High boys will be 7:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday and then first-round matches Thursday will start at 9 a.m. on eight mats. Championship quarterfinals and consolation first-round matches will take place on four mats, but will go to eight mats again after championship quarterfinals conclude.

THS and McLouth girls wrestling team members will have weigh-ins at noon Thursday, with competitions to mirror the same order and number of mats as the 4A boys.

Weigh-ins for 3-1A boys, which includes McLouth, will be 3:45 p.m., with competition to start at 5:15 p.m. Those matches will be on four mats, but will jump to eight after the championship quarterfinals conclude.

Friday’s schedule will be THS boys in 4A weighing in at 7:30 a.m. and competeion starting at 9 a.m. and then THS and MHS girls starting weigh-in at 10:30 a.m. and Day 2 of competition starting at noon

For 3-1A, weigh-in begins at 12:30 p.m. Friday and competition starts at 2 p.m.

On Saturday, all 4A and 3-1A boys brackets, as well as 4-1A girls brackets, will start at 9 a.m. (weigh-in again is 7:30 a.m.)

Consolation semifinals will be first on four mats, with fifth-place and third-place matches to follow on four mats.

The championship finals will be on three mats.
