Tonganoxie High track teams grab plenty of medals at Free State

Tonganoxie had four gold medals overall at the Free State Early Bird Invitational in Lawrence.

Todd Brown and Owen Schmidt won gold in the 100 and triple jump respectively.

Mikinzi Smoots took home top honors in the pole vault, while Addison Booker won the discus.

For the boys, Alex Stevens and Tanner Hand were second and third in the 200, while Gave Shupe nabbed eighth in the 800. Solomon Carter placed third in the 1,600 and Parker Welsh sixth in the 3,200.

Relay teams shined at Free State, as the 4×100 team placed second, the 4×400 third and the 4×800 third.

Owen Schmidt placed third in the long jump alongside his triple jump gold.

Tucker McGuire also placed fifth in the discus.

On the girls side,

Khrisalyn Wright took eighth in the 100 and Abby Burkart seventh in the 3,200.

In the high jump, THS had three placers: Adalyn Schooler second, Adalyn Harder sixth and Kasia Baldock eighth.

The team also had multiple placers in the discus, as Lila Shelby took second, Aubrey Padfield fourth and Adalyn Schoooler fifth.

And in the shot put, Lucy Rieke placed third and Aubrey Padifeld eighth.

Next up for THS track is a meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Junction City. Other teams there will be Junction City, Flint Hills Christian, Great Bend, Hutchinson, Manhattan, Salina Central and Salina South.

On Monday, the team is at Wamego for a 3 p.m. meet. Other squads there are Wamego, Rock Creek, Abilene, Riley County, Council Grove, Clay Center, St. Mary’s, Chapman, Eudora and Flint Hills Christian.
