Tonganoxie High boys cross country wins PLHS Invite; girls take 4th
The Tonganoxie High boys cross country team keeps cruising along as the postseason gets closer.
THS won the Perry-Lecompton Invitational convincingly Thursday with a low score of 25 at Topeka’s Hummer Park.
Solomon Carter and Parker Welsh placed second and third, respectively, in leading the Chieftains.
Carter finished with a time of 16 minutes, 50.15 seconds, while Welsh finished in 16:56.6. Jett Gilmore wasn’t far behind in fifth place. His time was 17:33.14. Piercen Eccles placed seventh with time of 18:03.42 and Elijah Weatherford ninth with an 18:10.80 time.
Huston Albert finished 23rd (19:42.74) and Ride Wilson 42nd (21:53.74).
Royal Valley’s Dominick Schnider won the individual title after finishing less than a second ahead of Carter. Schnider’s time was 16:49.26.
The THS girls had a strong day as well. Tonganoxie placed fourth as a team with 96 points.
Kara Johnson led all Tonganoxie runners with a fourth-place finish. She had a time of 20:29.42.
Brooke Nihart palmed 22nd with a 23:37.61 time and Taylor Liebeno 25th with a 23:51.6 time.
Autumn Wilson placed 27th (23:58.35), Gracelyn Barnett 35th (24:50.23), Elena Edholm 37th (25:07.18) and Kylee Cobb 43rd (26:15.5).
Paola’s Ella Needham won the girls race with a time of 19:52.12.
THS has the Pleasant Ridge Invitational on Saturday and then will compete in the Frontier League meet on its home course Oct. 17 at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.
