Tonganoxie cross country boys take 2nd at Pleasant Ridge invite in Leavenworth

Tonganoxie runners stepped up Saturday at the Pleasant Ridge Invitational on the University of Saint Mary campus in Leavenworth.

The THS cross country boys team placed second overall with 60 points. Eudora won the boys title with a low score of 45 points.

The Chieftains were without their top two runners, Solomon Carter and Parker Welsh, who were out due to a debate tournament that day.

Tonganoxie still had a big day with three runners in the Top 10.

Jett Gilmore placed third, Elijah Weatherford fourth and Piercen Eccles seventh.

Kara Johnson helped lead the THS girls to a fourth-place finish in the other varsity race. Johnson placed second overall.

Jefferson County North’s Lucas Meredith won the boys meet (17:05.59), while Eudora’s Hanna Keltner (18:30.53) won the girls individual title.

Next up for Tonganoxie is the Frontier League meet at home. Races start at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.
