Tonganoxie High boys win regional cross country title; Johnson qualifies as individual

The Tonganoxie High boys cross country team celebrates a Class 4A regional title Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, on the Blue Valley Southwest campus.Tonganoxie High boys cross country has another regional title and will compete for a state title next week, while Kara Johnson qualified for state as an individual again on the girls side.
Solomon Carter led the boys team with a second-place finish and a time of 16 minutes, 45.60. Teammate Parker Welsh wasn’t far behind in fourth place (17:00).
Overall, THS won the meet on the boys side with a low score of 38. Baldwin was the closest other team with 68.
Johnson placed 11th for the girls (20:18) and will join the boys team in Wamego next Saturday for the Class 4A state championships. Johnson will run at 11:10 a.m. next Saturday at the Wamego Country Club, while the boys team will run at 12:55 p.m. next Saturday.
The 4A girls awards presentation will be at 1:35 p.m., with the 4A boys awards ceremony to follow at 1:50 p.m.
The 2A and 1A championships also will be in Wamego, while the 6A, 5A and 3A championships will be at Rim Rock Farm between Lawrence and McLouth. The course is the collegiate home to the Kansas cross country teams.
