Tonganoxie High volleyball players celebrate a point during a match Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Eudora. Miege won the match and went on to win the substate against host EHS.

After a slow start to its Class 4A substate volleyball match against Bishop Miege, No. 7 Tonganoxie came oh so close to forcing a third set.

But for the second consecutive season, the Stags ended the Chieftains’ season in the first round of substate.

Bishop Miege won the first set, 25-10, and then slipped by THS, 26-24, in the second set.

Miege then went three sets against substate host and No. 2 seed in the East Bracket, Eudora.

BMHS won the first set, 25-20, and Eudora the second, 25-19, before Miege brought more heartache to a Frontier League team in the third set, 28-26.

Tonganoxie finished the season at 22-14, while Eudora finished at 32-5. Miege will take an 18-18 record on to state. Other teams advancing to state alongside Miege are Rock Creek (34-4), Hayden (29-10), Holton (29-11), Clay Center (36-3), Clearwater (33-4), McPherson (24-15) and Concordia (23-14).

This year’s campaign marked the third straight winning season and season of 20-plus victories. The team also went 24-14 in 2023 and 25-16 in 2022.
