Pools have been set for this year’s Tonganoxie Invitational volleyball tournament.

Tonganoxie High will be the No. 6 seed at its home invite.

Other teams in THS’ pool are No. 2 Eudora, No. 3 Topeka High, No. 7 Piper and No. 10 Turner. Those teams make up Pool B and will play in Chieftain Arena.

Pool A teams will play in the auxiliary gymnasium next door. Teams in that pool are No. 1 Blue Valley Southwest, No. 4 Gardner-Edgerton, No. 5 Junction City, No. 8 De Soto and No. 9 Ottawa.

The tournament starts at 8 a.m. Saturday and matches will run ahead of schedule if possible.

There will be four courts (two in each gymnasium) used for the tournament. The first matches of the day will be Tonganoxie vs. Turner on Court 1 and Eudora vs. Piper on Court 2 in the Chieftain Arena pool and Blue Valley Southwest vs. Ottawa on Court 3 and GEHS vs. De Soto on Court 4 in the Auxiliary Gymnasium.

There will be a 30-minute break between pool play and tournament/consolation play.

The No. 1 team out of Pool A will play the No. 2 team out of Pool B and vice versa for the championship tournament. No. 3 teams in pool play will square off for fifth place and No. 4 teams for seventh place in the auxiliary gymnasium at the same time as the championship semifinals. The No. 5 teams in each pool will not advance beyond pool play.

Winners of the championship semifinals will meet in the championship finals, while the losers of the semifinal matches will meet in the third-place match.

Tonganoxie was 7-6 at the time of seeding Monday morning and 8-7 as of Tuesday afternoon.
