Tonganoxie boys wrestling runs away with Baldwin Invitational title

Tonganoxie boys wrestling dominated the Baldwin Invitational this past weekend, capturing five individual titles on its way to a team title.

THS scored 231 points, well ahead of second-place Santa Fe Trail. The Charges tallied 159 points. Louisburg placed third with 152.

Rowdey Starcher (106), Brodie Starcher (113), Silas McCloy (132), Dax Duffett (138) and Brady Martin (157) all claimed gold at the meet.

Tyler Chrisp (120) nabbed silver, as did Blake Riedel (144) and Clayton Crookham (150).

Beau Underwood (126) finished third, Gavin Rhoads (285) fourth and Jaxon Dominic (215) seventh.

Rowdey Starcher enters competition this week at 19-11, while Brodie Starcher is 22-12. Chrisp is 27-10, Underwood 19-16, and McCloy 32-6. Duffett improved to 17-9 on the season after taking first Saturday and Riedel moved to 24-12 after finishing as runner-up.

Crookham is 24-12 and Martin 29-6. Dominic moved to 7-18 after taking seventh, while Gavin Rhoads is 7-8.

Next up is dual Thursday at Holton and then the Frontier League Meet on Saturday at Ottawa. The tournament starts at 9 a.m. and will run simultaneously with the girls league meet at OHS.

THS will have a break until regionals Feb. 22. The regional will be at Tonganoxie.

Other teams coming to town are Atchison, Baldwin, Eudora, Hiawatha, Holton, Bishop Ward, Jeff West, Ottawa, Perry-Lecompton, Santa Fe Trail, Nemaha Central, Miege, Silver Lake, Hayden and Wellsville.
