Tonganoxie girls wrestling 8 strong for this weekend’s state championships
The Tonganoxie High girls wrestling team will take eight wrestlers later this week to Salina in hopes of bringing home the program’s first state team title after winning its super regional earlier this month at Paola.
THS will compete at the Class 4A state championships at Tony’s Pizza Events Center. It marks the first year 4A will have its own state tournament. The inaugural season of varsity girls wrestling in Kansas was 2019-20 when there was one class. The next four years there were 6A and 5-1A tournaments. This will be the first year for 6A, 5A, 4A and 3-1A championships.
Tonganoxie was ranked No. 3 in 4A as of the Feb. 18 Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association rankings. Fort Scott was ranked No. 1 and Pratt No. 2.
