Tonganoxie Invitational opens 67th installment Thursday at Chieftain Arena

A whole lotta basketball is going to take place later this week at the 67th annual Tonganoxie Invitational Basketball Tournament.
The tourney normally is takes place over a span of six days, but this year’s invitational will be played over three days in two gymnasiums.
On the boys side, quarterfinal matchups are No. 1 Bonner Springs vs. No. 8 Midland Adventist, No. 4 Metro Academy vs. No. 5 Eudora, No. 2 Atchison vs. No. 7 Wichita North and No. 3 Schlagle vs. No. 6 Tonganoxie.
On the girls side, quarterfinal matchups are No. 1 Eudora vs. No. 8 Blue Valley West, No. 4 Tonganoxie vs. No. 5 Holton, No. 2 Piper vs. No. 7 Bonner Springs and No. 3 St. James vs. No. 6 Liberal.
This year’s fields feature three ranked teams: The Atchison boys at No. 5 in 4A, the Eudora girls at No. 4 in 4A and Piper at No. 4 in 5A.

McLouth also is in the midst of its 38th annual invitational. The girls side is an eight-team tourney, while the boys is seven.
