Tonganoxie boys wrestling nabs 5th at Iowa tourney

Tonganoxie High boys wrestling placed fifth at the Herb Irgens invitational Saturday in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Don Bosco won the meet with 237. Sergeant Bluff-Luton took second with 184.5, just ahead of Jesup with 183.5.

Woodbury Central placed fourth with 161.5.

Tonganoxie, the lone Kansas representative at the tourney, scored 153 for fifth.

THS had eight wrestlers place individually at the tournament.

Silas McCloy (20-5) and Brady Martin (20-5) both brought home gold medals, McCloy in the 132-pound division and Martin at 157.

Tyler Chrisp moved to 20-6 on the season after taking second at 120.

Clayton Crookham (18-9) finished fourth at 150, while Brodie Starcher (15-9) placed fifth at 113.

In addition, three Chieftain wrestlers placed sixth in their respective classes: Blake Riedel (18-9) at 144, Emmett Crookham (11-14) at 165 and Gavin Rhoads (4-3) at 285.

Others competing for the Chieftains in Iowa were Rowdey Starcher (14-8) at 106, Beau Underwood (12-12) at 126, Tyson King (4-18) at 175 and Jaxon Dominic (6-13) at 215.

Tonganoxie will be home for a dual starting at 6 p.m. Thursday against Olathe South at Chieftain Arena.

The team will then compete Saturday at the Baldwin Invitational at Baldwin Junior High School.

The meet begins at 9 a.m. Other teams competing are Buhler, Burlington, Eudora, Goodland, Hayden, Holton, Labette County, Louisburg, Ottawa, Perry-Lecompton, Prairie View, Rcok Creek, Santa Fe Trail, Wamego, Osawatomie and Jeff West.
