Leavenworth County Fair starts today; this year’s theme is ‘Barn in the USA’
Leavenworth County Fair Week has arrived.
The fair officially kicks off at noon today with opening ceremonies.
The Leavenworth High School ROTC will present the colors and the Tonganoxie High School band will perform the National Anthem. Though the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds will be a hub of activity through Saturday, but downtown Tonganoxie will be bustling later today for the annual fair parade. The theme for the parade and fair this year is “Barn in the USA.” The parade starts at Fourth and Main streets and makes its way west along Fourth Street.
New this year will be helicopter rides at the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission ball fields. The rides are available 5-10 p.m. today 4-10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 3-10 p.m. Saturday. Rides cost $40 Weight limit is 300 pounds per seat or 500 pounds among passengers. Also new this year is goat roping at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The Leavenworth County Fair dates back nearly 100 years, as the annual event got its start in 1926.
