Sign up to read to dogs

Starting in May, youths will have the chance to read to dogs at Tonganoxie Public Library.

From 3:30-4:45 p.m. every Tuesday starting next week, therapy dogs Major Tom and Foxy Lady will be at the library, and children will have the chance to read in 10-minute time slots per child. To guarantee a chance to read with the dogs, a spot should be reserved for each interested child by calling the library at 913-845-3281.

The Farmers Market is returning!

The Tonganoxie Farmers Market soon will be back open for the season in the library’s parking lot.

This year’s market kicks off on May 9 and will run through Oct. 10. The market opens at 5 p.m. each time and runs until 8 p.m. Anyone interested in becoming a vendor themselves can pick up an informational packet at the library’s front desk.

Summer Reading is almost here!

The library will begin another summer of reading with Adventure Begins at our kickoff party on May 16.

The fun starts at 5 p.m. and will include activities for all such as a bouncy castle, carnival games and arts and crafts. Party goers can also snack on hot dogs and snow cones and even shop around the Farmers Market, which will be open at the same time.

Youths can even get signed up for Summer Reading!

Make It Mini: Floral Arrangements

We’re enlisting the assistance of a talented florist to help us create beautiful small-scale floral arrangements in a program at 6:30 p.m. May 23.

She will guide participants through the basics of floral designing and then the creation of their own arrangement. The library will be providing all of the supplies.

The program is free, but registration is required ahead of time by calling the library at 913-845-3281.
