Library Corner: Civil War program; Family game night

By Kim Downing - | Aug 28, 2024

Kansas Before the Civil War program happening tonight

Paul Bahnmaier, President of the Lecompton Historical Society, will share a fascinating part of our state’s history at 6:30 p.m. today at Tonganoxie Public Library. Did you know that as Kansas moved toward statehood that there were four constitutions proposed? The second one, the Lecompton Constitution, was a document drafted and signed in 1857 in the territorial capital of Kansas and was pro-slavery. Hear about the history of the constitution that sparked debates and violence before ultimately being rejected by voters, making Kansas a free state.

Holiday hours

The library will be closed on Monday for Labor Day.

Normal hours will resume on Tuesday.

Family game night

Get the family together and head over to the library for an evening of games on Sept. 5. Card games, board games and even video games, too! All ages are welcome to come play with us from 5-8 p.m.
