Library Corner: Civil War program; Family game night
Kansas Before the Civil War program happening tonight
Paul Bahnmaier, President of the Lecompton Historical Society, will share a fascinating part of our state’s history at 6:30 p.m. today at Tonganoxie Public Library. Did you know that as Kansas moved toward statehood that there were four constitutions proposed? The second one, the Lecompton Constitution, was a document drafted and signed in 1857 in the territorial capital of Kansas and was pro-slavery. Hear about the history of the constitution that sparked debates and violence before ultimately being rejected by voters, making Kansas a free state.
