Tongie Days returning to Gallagher Park next month
Organizers are gearing up for this year’s Tongie Days festival, which will be Sept. 20-22 in Tonganoxie.
The bulk of activities will take place Sept. 21, but other activities that have become a mainstay of the weekend will happen the other two days.
Tonganoxie Recreation Commission will have a fireworks display again this year in conjunction with the community festival.
Fireworks will begin around 9 p.m., with other activities planned for the TRC ball field areas as part of the event.
Fireworks will be shot off near the northern-most ball fields. Families will be able to park in other areas of the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.
On Sept. 21, Food trucks will be serving up goodies from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on Main Street near Gallagher Park.
This marks a return of the festival to that area of downtown.
There also will be children’s games along Delaware Street between Third and Fourth streets from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., along with pony rides.
Large yard games will be offered from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., while craft vendors will sell items from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Live music also is planned from 4:30-9:30 p.m.
This year’s musical lineup features Blast Monkeys and then Back 4T and the Ronni Ward Band.
Blast Monkeys are a three-member rock band based out of Tonganoxie, while Back 4T is a red dirt country band based in the area.
Finally, the Ronni Ward Band that performs music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s.
On Sept. 22, Tonganoxie City fire and police departments will square off for their annual softball game at the TRC fields at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.
