Unable to experience area Christmas festivities? Some events being offered up to New Year’s Eve

There still are chances to celebrate the Christmas season in advance of Christmas Day.

But if your schedule is filling up and you can’t squeeze in some festive adventures in the next week, there also are an array of events going on beyond Dec. 25.

Here’s a look at local events taking place in the days before Christmas and more that are being offered into the new year:

Community National Bank to sponsor open house Thursday

Community National Bank will be spreading Christmas cheer this week with a Tonganoxie Christmas Open House.

The event will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at Community National Bank.

The community is invited to join in for a feast of food and drinks.

Knights of Lights back at RenFest grounds

Visitors can walk through the enchanted land of the Renaissance Festival grounds in Bonner Springs this holiday season.

Knights of Lights is available 5:30-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 5:30-9 p.m. Sunday at the grounds, as well as 5:30-9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday (Christmas Eve) and Dec. 27-29 and Dec. 31. There also will be a New Year’s Eve party from 10 p.m.-1 a.m. Dec. 31.

Historic Lecompton’s Annual Christmas Tree Display being offered through Jan. 5

The Historic Lecompton Annual Christmas Tree Display is now in its 20th year, and has grown to more than 240 Christmas trees decorated in the theme “Christmas through the Ages.” Many trees are decorated in a classic Victorian style, and they are displayed in one of the more historic settings in Douglas County. The Territorial Capital Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places for the role Lecompton played during the Bleeding Kansas period of the U.S. Civil War. Nearby are several other historic sites related to the Civil War and Kansas’ statehood.

The displays are available 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday through Jan. 5 at the Territorial Capital Museum, 640 E. Woodson Ave., Lecompton.

Lawrence Lights: Making Spirit Bright

Lawrence Lights: Making Spirits Bright winds through the Youth Sports Complex near the Clinton Lake Dam.

It features many synchronized light displays and a variety of holiday scenes. Organizers request that people reserve a time to view the display in order to minimize traffic issues. Reservations can be made at lawrence-lights.com. The admittance fee is used to help support more than a dozen local nonprofits. The Lawrence Board of Realtors Community Foundation, the Sertoma Club of Lawrence and the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department organize the event, and then distribute funds to a variety of local groups that provide social services in the community.

The show is available 5:30-9:30 p.m. through Dec. 27 at the complex, 4911 W. 27th St., Lawrence.

Zoo Lights available through Dec. 28

The Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center again is offering Zoo Lights this holiday season.

Tickets can be purchased for the nightly event. Private igloos also are being sold for groups wanting an added experience.

Zoo Lights is available 5-9 p.m. today and Thursday and the 5-10 p.m. daily through Dec. 28, except for Christmas Day when the zoo is open for the lights from 6-9 p.m.

Jingle! appearing at Legends Field

through Dec. 31

The home of the Kansas City Monarchs again has been transformed into a winter wonderland.

This year’s offering is Jingle!, which also has similar offerings in St. Louis and Springfield, Mo.

There’s a Magic Forest Ice Skating Trail and snow tubing on real snow with the Glacier Slide Snow Tubes.

There’s also children’s activities, including a Sno-Go-Round, story time with Mrs. Claus and arts and crafts.

For the adults there are popup holiday bars and Food Truck Alley.

Reservations can be made most days in hourly increments starting at 10:30 a.m., with the last early afternoon one starting at 1:30 p.m.

Evening increments start at 4:30 p.m., with the last offering at 7:30 p.m. some days and 9:30 p.m. for others.

The are no time slots available on Christmas Eve. Dec. 22 is Ugly Sweater Night and day passes are also available.
