Winter weather advisories, wind chill watch in effect in area
Winter weather advisories once again issued for areas that include Tonganoxie, McLouth
Tonganoxie is under a winter weather advisory from 3 p.m. Thursday to 9 p.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service advisory covers portions of east central and northeast Kansas and north central, northwest and west central Missouri.
Mixed precipitation is expected, with total snow accumulations up to 1 inch and ice accumulations 0.1 of an inch. Wind gusts could be as high as 40 mph.
McLouth and Lawrence in counties are under a similar winter weather advisory and a wind chill watch.
The advisory and watch cover portions of east central and northeast Kansas. Mixed precipitation, up to an inch of snow and 0.2 of an inch of ice are possible, along with wind gusts as high as 35 mph.
A wind chill watch runs from 6 p.m. Friday to noon Tuesday.
Wind chills as low as 30 below zero are possible. Cold wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin isn as little as 30 minutes, according to the NWS watch.
Tonganoxie is covered by the NWS office in Kansas City, Mo., as Leavenworth County is included in that office’s area.
Douglas County (Lawence) and Jefferson County (McLouth) in the region the NWS office in Topeka covers.
