Frigid front halts activities
Winter weather advisories and wind chill warnings have been the norm this last week.
Inclement weather caused closings and postponements last week starting the evening of Jan. 8. School cancellations then were the norm much of last week. Tonganoxie did not have school Friday due to the high school hosting state debate and Monday due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but the weather wasn’t ideal those days, either. Storms dropped around 6 inches of snow in the area last week. Snow also blanketed the area Monday. Genesis Schools also did not have classes due to weather, while Good Shepherd Thrift Shop and Food Bank closed its doors due to the inclement weather and low temps. Tonganoxie Recreation Commission, meanwhile, has had to juggle some of its programming as well.
Temperatures are supposed to climb to the low 30s today, per weather.com, before dropping back to the teens Friday.
