Tonganoxie City Council Chambers are moving to the former public library at Third and Bury streets. In-person meetings also available for viewing on a city YouTube Channel could start with the Jan. 19 regular meeting.

Tonganoxie City Council approved a right of way vacation as part of the Fourth Street bridge replacement project during its regular meeting Monday in Council Chambers.

The easements and rights-of-way regard adjoining property owners Francis and Cheryl Sparks at 1231 E. Fourth St.

The council had a public hearing at 7 p.m. in advance of the vote. No one spoke during the public hearing.

Council members then approved the measure, 4-0, with Council Member Chris Donnelly absent.

The council also approved vending permit applications for fireworks sales from Anthony Miller and Garrett’s Worldwide Enterprises, LLC.

Tonganoxie City Fire Chief John Zimbelman preliminarily reviewed applications and submitted no comments or concerns to the City Council’s attention. Closer to the date of sale, the Fire Department will inspect the physical layout of each of the approved permit sites.

Permits are $500. The city also receives revenue from sales tax on fireworks during the seasonal sales period.

Fireworks can be discharged 8 a.m.-11 p.m. June 30-July 4 or as authorized by the council.
