Tonganoxie High students picked for Girls State

Tonganoxie High School’s Aubrey Padfield and Kayla Thornton are this year’s THS representatives to the 81st American Legion Auxiliary Girls State on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence. The THS students will be seniors in the fall. The event started Sunday and concludes Friday.

Aubrey Padfield and Kayla Thornton were chosen to represent Tonganoxie as delegates to this year’s American Legion Auxiliary Sunflower Girls State. Girls State is a week-long residential program dedicated to educating young women of Kansas about the inner-workings of government through a “Learning by Doing” atmosphere.

This year’s Girls State, which is taking place on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, started Sunday and will conclude Friday.

Seniors-to-be in the fall participate in the event, which is in its 81st year.

This year’s Girls State started Sunday and concludes today.
