A new mural greets visitors who enter the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission Activity Center gymnasium through its main downstairs entrance. TRC expanded its hours of operations a couple weeks ago and staff look to continue to add more offerings.

Tonganoxie Recreation Commission’s Summer Theater Program will perform “Peter Pan” this week.

Performances will be 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Tonganoxie Performing Arts Center on the Tonganoxie High School campus. More about the event can be found on Page 3A.

Fireworks season almost here

It’s about time for Roman candles, rockets, fountains, tanks and more.

Fireworks can be discharged 8 a.m.-11 p.m. starting Sunday and continuing through July 4 within city limits or as authorized by the Tonganoxie City Council.

Lawrence will have a drone show on July 3 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds instead of the traditional fireworks show.

McLouth, meanwhile, will have Independence Day festivities on July 4 at Stan Braksick Sports Complex.

For safety tips this holiday season, check out the story on Page 4A.

Leavenworth County Fair begins at end of July

The Leavenworth County Fair will start July 30 this year at the fairgrounds in Tonganoxie.

Fair Week will continue until Aug. 3.
