Tonganoxie celebrating homecoming this week

Tonganoxie High School will crown its homecoming king and queen before Friday’s football game against Bonner Springs at Beatty Field. It is, of course, homecoming week, which means students have been dressing up in different themes since Monday.
Pajama Day kicked of Spirit Week on Monday and then Tuesday was Famous Characters Day.
Today is Barbie and Ken Day and Thursday is, as mentioned before, Favorite Movie Genre Day.
Friday is billed as the Biggest Red and White Day of the Year.
The two best dressed THS students according to each theme day will receive reserved parking spots for the homecoming game and VIP tickets to the homecoming dance.
Other events have taken place so far this week and also are planned for later in the week.
On Monday morning, the homecoming court, football seniors and cheerleaders were at Tonganoxie Elementary School to kick off PJ Day.
On Tuesday, THS had a school wide rock, paper, scissors tournament.
As for today, there will be a Barbie box for students and others to take photos in. That includes THS principal Cody Witte, who allegedly will be dressed as Ken, will be available for photo opportunities in the oversized box. In addition, the THS drumline will perform at TES today.
Friday there will be the homecoming parade down Fourth Street and the homecoming parade at Fourth and Bury streets.
Homecoming royalty will then be crowned before the THS football game against Bonner Springs. This year’s queen candidates are Taylor Brents, Khrisalyn Wright, Macie Murray, Elena Edholm, Bailey Iglehart, Stella Bradley and Grae Vanderweide. King candidates are Huston Albert, Tanner Hand, Zach Fisher, Talon Langford, Solomon Carter, Emmett Crookham and Todd Brown.
Also taking place Friday will be the annual Tonganoxie Education Foundation Hall of Fame induction reception and ceremony.
Shari Curry will be receiving the Alumni Achievement Award, while Chris Weller and the late Marilyn Weller are this year’s education inductees.
There will be a ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Friday starting with appetizers at 304 Venue, 304 E. Fourth St. Hall of Fame tributes will begin at 5 p.m.
Plaque presentations will take place during halftime of the THS football game.
On Saturday, THS students will cap the homecoming week festivities with a dance. This year’s theme is Hollywood Lights. The dance will be 8-10:30 a.m. on the THS campus.
