The Tonganoxie USD 464 school board meets during its regular meeting in August 2024 at the district's Administrative Center.

Tonganoxie USD 464 school board members approved their proposed 2024-25 budget during Monday’s regular meeting.

The school district has a maximum mill rate of 59.772 for 2024-25, which is a slight decrease from the 2023-24 actual tax rate of 59.857 mills.

District patron Mike Doyle voice concerns during the public hearing about “excessively high property taxes” and that the quality of living in Leavenworth County is taking a hit because of taxes from various entities, including the district.

School Board President Justin Sturgeon worked to keep the mill levy flat this year.

The board and administration certainly are cognizant of it and the pressure it places on families,” Sturgeon said of the taxes.

Tonganoxie City, meanwhile, has a maximum mill levy of 40.757, which is just higher than the actual mill rate of 40.695 for 2024. The increase is for a line item for the library’s budget, which is submitted through the city’s budget.

The City Council approved its budget during its meeting Sept. 3.
