Robert A. Jackson, 42, Leavenworth, has been sentenced following his conviction on multiple drug-related charges stemming from an incident near the VA Medical Center.

During a sentencing hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 26, a judge imposed three concurrent sentences at the Leavenworth County Justice Center, according to a release from the office of Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson:

• 20 months in prison for possession of hydromorphone

• 11 months in prison for possession of methamphetamine

• 6 months in Leavenworth County Jail for possession of drug paraphernalia

A Leavenworth County jury found Jackson guilty on Jan. 14, 2025. The charges originated from a Nov. 14, 2023, incident when a Leavenworth police officer was dispatched to 4011 Franklin Avenue to assist VA police in apprehending Jackson. He had been involved in a foot chase with a VA officer in an area south of the VA Medical Center.

During the pursuit, Jackson discarded a small black case, which was later recovered by law enforcement, according to the release. Inside, officers found substances that tested positive for hydromorphone and methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia.

“This case highlights the efforts of local law enforcement in combatting illegal drug activity in our community,” Thompson said. “Thanks to the swift response of both VA and Leavenworth police officers, someone found illegally possessing drugs will be held accountable.”
