Tonganoxie area in a blizzard, high wind warnings from Tuesday night into Wednesday

Here's a look Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, down Fourth Street in Tonganoxie following rain and heavy snowfall for Winter Storm Blair, which hit the area starting Saturday afternoon. Up to 2 inches could fall Jan. 9, per a National Weather Service winter weather advisory.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday for portions of east central and northeast Kansas, including the Tonganoxie area, along with north central, northwest and west central Missouri.

Blizzard conditions are expected, with total accumulation being anywhere from a dusting to 2 inches and wind gusts as high as 70 mph. Whiteout conditions are expected and travel is expected to be extremely hazardous, according to the warning. High winds could also cause extensive tree damage.

A high wind warning also is in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Northwest winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph are expected.
