Tonganoxie FFA officers gather during the FFA chapter’s recent open house and silent auction at the Tonganoxie High School commons area. Pictured, front row, from left, are Ethan Riley, Alyssa Schmid, Autumn Wilson and Anna Scates; back row, from left, auctioneer Daryl Stottlemire, FFA sponsor Shannon Reischman, Ella Shoemaker, Paige Vermilye, Lilly Bedtke and FFA adviser Kaysi Overdick.Driving through the Tonganoxie area and Leavenworth County in general, one can see the long-standing imprint agriculture has on the area.
Farmsteads dot the landscape, as do agritourism spots where visitors can buy fresh eggs, fruits, meats and more.
And in Tonganoxie the high school’s FFA chapter continues to go strong as the love of agriculture grows on for future generations.
The Tonganoxie FFA participates in various local initiatives and events, such as Day on the Farm, National FFA Week festivities (including the ever-popular open house and auction) and Leavenworth County Fair food booth and numerous fair exhibits. There’s also the horticulture plant sales that students provide to the community through cultivation of plants in the THS greenhouse.
Outside of the community, FFA members participate in livestock, horse and land judging, to name a few events, as well as the state convention at the beginning of summer break in Manhattan.
Members also participate in the national convention each fall in Indianapolis.
