Jack Thomas, 22, Leavenworth, was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison on Wednesday, March 1, in Leavenworth County District Court for conspiracy to distribute Alprazolam and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Thomas was sentenced to 150 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections, according to a release from Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson. Alprazolam is an opioid known commonly as Xanax.

The charges stemmed from an agreement with another, Tyler Chappell, 21, Leavenworth, to purchase 2,500 pills of Alprazolam on the dark web and sell them on the streets (Chappell was convicted of distribution of marijuana in Leavenworth and sentenced to 86 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections). The pills, which had just been delivered, were discovered during the execution of a search warrant at Thomas’ home in a P.O. box, the release said.

Tyler Jacob Chappell, 21, Leavenworth, was previously sentenced to 88 months for possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and interference with law enforcement.

Chappell pled last month to these crimes due to an arrest on April 11, 2022.

On that date, Chappell drove a vehicle knowing he did not have a license. Officers stopped his vehicle and found 11 bags of marijuana totaling 337 grams.

During the course of the investigation, law enforcement found others that admitted to buying marijuana from him.

“We must fight those that harm are community, and none hurt us more than drug dealers,” Thompson said. “Not only do they harm those they provide to, they hurt everyone connected to them.”
