A 24-year-old Leavenworth man has been convicted on charges related to possessing and dealing fentanyl.

Kevin L. Thomas entered no-contest pleas Friday in Leavenworth County District Court to individual counts of distributing fentanyl and possession of fentanyl. The judge accepted the pleas and found Thomas guilty.

During the investigation into Thomas’ actions, Leavenworth police observed Thomas sitting on a front porch and being approached by people. On one occasion, a known fentanyl user approached Thomas and then walked away. Following this activity, a search warrant was served at Thomas’s residence. During that search, officers found fentanyl pills inside Thomas’ bedroom.

On a separation occasion, officers made contact with Thomas following a traffic infraction. Thomas was a passenger inside that vehicle. While officers performed a Carroll search of the vehicle a scale with fentanyl residue on it was found.

“Removing fentanyl and fentanyl dealers from our streets and neighborhoods is one of my office’s top priorities,” said Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson. We must do whatever we can to stop the ongoing spread of fentanyl. We will continue fighting and holding these perpetrators accountable.”
