Woman who forged checks for pizza pleads guilty
A Leavenworth woman who stole mail from mailboxes and used a forged check, but provided her real address and phone number for a pizza delivery, has pleaded guilty to charges of forgery and theft.
During a plea hearing Wednesday, May 29, Scarlett Housworth, 53, pleaded guilty to theft and forgery.
According to court documents: On Sept. 12, 2023, Scarlett Housworth ordered a Papa John’s pizza. Housworth used her real phone number and address but used a forged check to pay for the pizza. The forged check was for $48.23.
On Feb. 4, Scarlett Housworth was arrested by a Leavenworth County deputy after her SUV was observed driving on the wrong side of the road and stopping at mailboxes near New Lawrence Drive and Eisenhower Road. Following Housworth’s arrest, stolen mail was discovered inside her vehicle.
“We should be able to trust that our mail will be safe, but that isn’t always the case,” Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson said. “If you witness suspicious activity around mailboxes, please report it to authorities.”
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 10, 2024.
