A former nurse who used another person’s State of Kansas Board of Nursing certification number to obtain employment has been convicted of identity theft.

During a hearing Friday, 48-year-old Tracie D. Launderville, of Tonganoxie, was found guilty after pleading no contest in Leavenworth County District Court, per a release from the office of Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson.

According to court documents, the Tonganoxie Police Department began an investigation Feb. 9, 2024, while Launderville was employed at a Tonganoxie nursing home. During the investigation into missing medications, officers discovered the nursing certification number she provided belonged to a different licensed nurse. Records showed Launderville’s Kansas certification had expired in 2010 and was not valid at any time during her employment.

When questioned about the discrepancy, Launderville told her employer the name associated with the certification number was her former name. Investigators later determined she had provided a fraudulent certification number on her employment application.

“Although the defendant was once a licensed nurse, using someone else’s certification number to gain employment is unlawful,” Thompson said.

Sentencing is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 10.
