Fred L. Johnson, 77, of Lawrence, Kan., died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence. He was born Oct.19, 1921 in Devon, Kan., the son of Raymond and Lena (Larimar) Johnson. He married LuDell Horn on June 3, 1943, in Hunt, Texas. She survives at the home.

Johnson attended Devon,Kan. schools. He then attended C.C.C. Camp and was an Army Veteran of World War II. After the war, he came to Lawrence in 1944. He went to work for A & P Grocery Store as a meat cutter. He went to work for the contractor that built the electric lines that later became Leavenworth-Jefferson Electric Co-op. He went to work for the co-op as a lineman and retired as general manager after 41 years with the company.

Johnson was a member of Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 9 AF & AM and would have received his 50-year pin on Oct. 21, 1999. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, James L. of Mission, Kan., and Raymond L. of Lawrence; a brother Lyle L. Johnson of Bartlesville, Okla.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 20, 1999 at 10 a.m. at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.

Memorials may be made to the Educational Fund for the great grandchildren in care of the funeral home.
