Residents can make their voices heard
In just a few days, the Leavenworth County clerk will close the voter registration books until after the Aug. 1 primary election.
The last day to register for the upcoming election is Monday.
Residents of southern Leavenworth County have much at stake in the upcoming primary. The race for the Third District commission seat has attracted quite a crowd five Democrats and three Republicans.
That means that every vote carries a great deal of weight. A few votes one way or another can make a difference.
In the 1996 primary election for the Third District seat, for example, 1,698 Democrats voted, while 2,373 Republicans cast ballots.
If you’re registered to vote, mark Aug. 1 on your calendar. If you’re not registered, head over to the county annex and mark Aug. 1 on your calendar.
